Planning for Transition Training Event

Hello all!
 
We’ve been planning on holding Transition training courses for a couple months now. They’re two-day events meant to help forming Initiatives — like TPA — get a deeper understanding of the Transition process.
 
The course we’re going to host is called Transition LAUNCH, which “provides practical tools and know-how to set up, run, and grow a successful Transition Initiative.” It’s also an important part of becoming an official Initiative: Transition US likes to see two people with Transition training on an Initiating Group, and right now only Hank Gibson has training.
 
All seven of us on the Initiating Group intend to take the training. In addition to ourselves, we will hold as many courses as there are interested people. 
 
If you’re interested, please reply to be on the enrollment list. The list will be sorted based on date-stamps.
 
On to the details!
 
Port Angeles is very fortunate to have a trainer located in Victoria. Her name is Michelle Colussi, and you can read more about her at Transition US. You can also email her (via michelle.colussi.2010@gmail.com), she’ll be happy to answer any questions regarding the LAUNCH training.
 
Her maximum course size is 18 people, and we’ll be using a sliding scale for the course. With the full 18 people signed up, it’ll probably cost around $125-$150 each. Fewer people means a higher cost, so it’s in everyone’s interest to have a full house. We’ll do what we can to keep costs down.
 
We also want to offer full and partial scholarships for future trainings, and we’re looking into how that will work. If you’d like to join a course but can’t afford it, please mention this in your reply.
 
Dates for the first training course will be announced as soon as we firm up plans with Michelle. Again, please reply if you want to be on the enrollment list, or if you have any questions.

27 August Event Update

Hello all,
 
This is confirmation of the upcoming TPA event on the 27th of August!
 
The movie will be ‘Power of Community’, a video about how Cuba dealt with the devastating effects of losing oil imports. As the title suggests, it shows how global problems can indeed be solved by local actions.
 
After a short break, we’ll facilitate group discussion about the movie. 
 
Following this big group discussion, we’ll have updates on First Federal’s demutualization, the Farmers’ Market outreach table, as well as any other topics and ongoing projects we’ve been working on.

Topic Focus Time

Hello all,
 
Tomorrow is the Initiating Group’s regular work meeting, and we want to try something new. Every week we’re going to have focus time on one particular topic, and this week is planning for having an information table at the Farmers’ Market.
 
We’ll be at the Oven Spoonful at 4:30pm. Anyone who’s interested in helping out with outreach at the Farmers’ Market is more than welcome to join us! This project needs help anywhere from eventually sitting at the table to designing handouts. What comes out of this project is the beginning of a ‘booth kit’ that can be set up at any location.

The Charter is Online!

Hello all, the Charter is up for everyone to read and review! You can get to it by clicking on “The Charter” at the top of this blog, or via this link here.

This is a long document, as you will see. Don’t feel like you have to digest it all at once. It took us hundreds of hours to get the Charter to this point, and it’s not finished yet. It needs more eyes and brains. If you’re reading this, its your eyes and your brain we need!

We’ll have the Charter printed off for the upcoming Monday event, and we’ll try to incorporate any changes or additions made between then and now. Pens and sticky-notes will be used Monday. On this blog, please leave a comment on the appropriate page with clear indications of the changes or additions you’d like to see. We’ll type those in as quickly as we can.

Have fun, and we look forward to the continuing evolution of the Charter!

Update on August 13th Event

Hello all,
 
Our next movie night is this Monday, the 13th, at 7:00 pm in the PA Library’s Carver Room. We’ll be playing In Transition 2.0, the sequel to the last movie. It is only recently released, and gives a great view on how the Transition movement is spreading and evolving.
 
After the movie is group activity. This time there are two big things to talk about:
 
One activity will be us talking about our various projects. Quite simply, we need help to get things done.
 
The other activity will be the first (of several) public editing sessions of the Charter! This is the foundational document for all of Transition PA. It’s key not only for getting ‘official’ status from Transition US, but for the future of TPA itself. 
 
We’ll have the draft text of the Charter posted on our website soon, and we’ll send out a notice about that. Rest assured there will be more public edits of the Charter in the future. This is a big project!

Movie Night Update

Hello everyone!
As previously announced, we’re having a movie night on the 6th of August, 7:00 pm, at the PA Library’s Carver Room. We’ll give a quick overview of why we’ve been quiet these past months, and what we’ve accomplished. Then it’s straight on to the movie: In Transition 1.0, an introduction to the Transition movement.
Afterwards, we’ll have group activities around the ideas and issues from the April dots project. Don’t worry if you haven’t been a part of this discussion yet, it’s straightforward and painless!
